Dr. Yazhou Zhou
Yazhou Zhou studied Materials Science and Engineering at the Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, China and obtained Master’s degree in 2013. He was supported by the joint excellent doctoral program working at Jiangsu University. He completed his PhD by the end of 2015 in the group of Professor Xiaonong Cheng, and partly in the group of Professor Yuehe Lin at the Washington State University (WSU), USA, working on novel functional nanomaterials for various applications inluding electrocatalysts, photocatalysts and biomaterials. In 2015, he joined the Jiangsu Universty as a lecture and then promoted to be an associate professor at the beginning of 2018. Then he joined the group of Professor Klaus Müllen at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) in Mainz as a visiting postdoc with support by Chinese Government Scholarships (CSC). Beginning in July 2020, he was appointed as an administrative project leader in the Synthetic Chemistry Department at MPI-P and as an independent member to lead the materials science research. His research activity is mainly focused on electrocatalysts and devices for hydrogen energy. The aim of Yazhou Zhou’s research is to design and synthesize noble metal-free catalysts (e.g. heteroatom-doping carbon materials, single-atom catalysts etc.) and to better understand the correlation between structures, electrocatalytic activities and applications of electrocatalysts.
